The grass is always green on my side.

Magnetic attraction

People all over the world collect weird stuff. Lynnee collected a COMPLETE set of the recent (CRAZY) Hello Kitty! magnets from Guardian (NOT Watson’s – some people SWEAR it’s different but HELLO, they are the same to me. The only difference is one is mainly blue in colour and the other green. That is all.), all 30 pieces I think, some people collect match boxes especially those from the hotels (my best friend’s mum does this), some collect international business cards (This here has a collection of a whole lot of funny stuff as well), some even collect locks of celeb hair (How does one get about this?!?!?! I have NO idea. *Yvy planning : Stalk Vin Diesel and the minute he steps out of his home, grab his hair?* O wait, he doesn’t have hair. Darn it! Now I can’t fulfill my desire to collect my fav celeb hair.) BUT I collect fridge magnets.

Yes, I used to go crazy over stamps at one point in my life. That was during my schooling and teenage years. Dad and mum have a collection of REALLY old stamps and Daddy LOVED first day covers so maybe he tried to instill in me the love for stamps as well. I still collect them but not as fervent anymore. I’ve since diverted my attention fully towards collecting fridge magnets thank to Mummy. This all started when we went overseas for the first time, to Holland. Mummy made it a point to buy a fridge magnet from all the places and towns we visited while on the trip and since then, it became a MUST to obtain a fridge magnet from wherever we went. While people were busy snapping photos, we were always busying ourselves in the souvenirs outlets looking for the PERFECT magnet. And when one (or two) was finally purchased; we’d be smiling from ear to ear.

It then became an obsession for me. I felt that I simply HAD to have fridge magnets from all over the world but I knew it was near impossible if I were to collect them myself (since I don’t think my money tree, which I don’t even have, could sprout money leaves for me to travel the world, nor do I have any moths like Plink). So I decided that I would need a LOT of help and THAT was very possible for me since the industry I work in enables my guys (colleagues) to partly travel the world for various reasons. Thus, my fridge magnet collection grew and grew and grew.

Today, I just received something VERY VERY special. At this precise moment, I have a FEW magnets which I label my most ‘prized’ possessions namely, 2 magnets from Israel ~ YES, from the Holy Land indeed, a TOTALLY impossible feat for me as a Malaysian coz our passport doesn’t allow visits to Israel and a magnet from St. Pietro, Rome, which I just received yesterday. Des bought the magnet AND a maroon (my fav color) rose-sandalwood rosary in a container with the picture of Pope Benedict the 16th on it. So happening or what?!?!

See? See? Nice or not?

I have currently 63 foreign fridge magnets (including Australia, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Korea, Austria, Canada, Russia, Israel, Jeruslem, Holland/Amsterdam, Germany, London, Paris, Singapore, Rome, Austin, San Francisco, New York, Ireland & New Zealand) and 10 local ones (Langkawi, KL, Sabah, Sarawak & Pangkor).

At least you collect inexpensive stuff, my ex collects Swarovski crystals, grrrr. I hate those things. She buys them whenever she or we go abroad. She already had a cabinet full of them, all shapes and sizes. Oh and she collects fridge magnets too. =(
