FF : The World’s Longest Canopy walk, here in KULIM!!
Posted on 2006 under Adventures, Fancy Friday |25 Aug
Woooohoooo!!! :dancing: Who would have thought that Kulim, of all places would have the WORLD’S longest tree top/canopy walk!!! Happening or what?!
I couldn’t possibly miss the chance of experiencing this, could I? So Ted & I jumped unto the bandwagon and together with uncles and aunties and a cousin, we took a ride to Sungai Sedim to experience the WORLD’S longest tree top/canopy walk.
Frankly, I’ve been doing SO much travelling that all my travels are all haywire! This canopy walk happened on Saturday, just in case I forget to mention it. This was right after that superb Teluk Bahang & Genting Hill experience. So when I encountered a little bit of winding roads and fairly steep roads, I wasn’t too happy BUT nothing could beat Genting Hill. Really.
Now back to the canopy walk. It’s RM10 per adult to enter and if you’re planning to go here, please go to the ladies/gents before coming up to the ticket counter and starting your journey coz the toilets are all located at the bottom. That’s a fair warning I must say as I and my aunts had exprienced it once before, so take heed. The walk is a mere 900m walk, less than a kilometre but you tend to stop many times to take in nature at its best and snapping away at anything you see [I can already visualize Visi snapping pix like a mad woman! :hehe:]. It’s really beautiful there but the humidity can kill!

Ted experiences and witnesses it all. Looks rather happy doesnt he?

Ahoy there down below!! [This view was taken at 26.05m from the forest level.]
Sungai Sedim runs right through so you can see it flow down. It’s also a great camping site as the park provides the [almost] necessary place and amenities for a camping experience. It’s worth a visit but no more than once is necessary unless you’re planning to go camping or whitewater rafting which I hear is located further up. Up where, I dunno so if you’re interested…please come down to the office and find out more.

Sungai Sedim flows and flows and flows. Gorgeous!

Cousin Kimmy and I ~ champions! Made it through without fainting from the humidity nor the height.

Nice! I thought the walkway would be made out of ropes (more adventurous mah). Well well, these guys really put some money to invest in this “World Longest..”

Hmm… interesting! Got an address and driving instructions to share?

Domestic Rat : Aiyo….maps? Errhhmmm….have to search. Lemme see what I can find coz I SO suck at drawing maps.
Visi : You better believe. Dont say Kulim no up lor….Lol
Vien : Whoah, I’d think twice abt walking on ropes at 26m off the ground! What if it snaps???? :hypnotized: In any case, steel would be a better choice. Max of 30 ppl each time so good to know they know their limits n keep the visitors controlled.

Which reminds me … I have to go do the timber top walk down south. [It's down in the Jarrah forests, somewhere near Denmark/Albany or something!]

Eew…it’s made of tubular steel trusses! Swinging rope bridges would have been more fun. This looks too secure, way too secure.
Looking through the grating you see trusses, not empty space

  At 26050mm=26.05m lar!
And I learned something new today: there actually is a Kulim tree! :nerd:

Looks stronger than the canopy walk that I tried in Ghana - it is made of 2 planks help by thick steel cables.
It is very safe to walk but if you walk too fast, the walkway sways right to left and there is nothing for you to hold except for the steel cables. The park rangers said so far no one had fallen. Once we reached the exit, we saw panther’s footprint (the park ranger who was there said that the panther only comes out at night but we did not stay too long to find out. We were too scared)
It was a good experience though.

You should also try the canopy walk in FRIM, KL because it’s scarier.
