The grass is always green on my side.

I think I’m getting old

I sit beside a young, cute Greek guy at work. He is such a sweetie and no, I’m not hitting on him. He already has both his hands full trying to decide which girl he wants to date. [This I know from our brother-sister conversation that we have off and on, between sifting through the cases that we are working on.] And he always seems to have something happening over the weekend. It was like I was re-living my life through his words.

He’s always telling me about his Saturday clubbing and how he and his mates are most of the time down at the beach, trying to buff up for the summer and at the same time, trying to get a nice even suntan. It’s just so  fun listening to him tell me tales of his life - so youthful. I feel ancient listening to him talk about this coz I never go clubbing here. Well, never been to a club since I’ve been here but been to many pubs though. It’s like when he tells me all this fun, I feel like my life is passing me by way too fast!

I feel like it was just yesterday that I was coming home from SS everyday week at 3am with smoke-stinky hair and aching legs due to the non-stop dancing from 11pm to 3am. *sigh* I miss those weekends. I don’t know when I’ll ever be able to have the same fun here coz I don’t have the right friends to go with. Like I said, my friends here are mostly Ted’s and my work colleagues…well, we meet at work and that’s about it. We live too far apart to meet up just to go clubbing and travelling by taxi passed midnight is just not my thing. I rather drive home half drunk than take a taxi in a foreign land. I’m not saying that it’s not safe to ride in taxis. It is I guess but there is a possibility that it’s NOT. And I’m not taking such chances at all. Even back home, I hardly take the taxi unless I have no choice. No offence to the cabbies, I bet many cabbies out there are honest to goodness dudes but there are also a handful of ol’ grubby fingers too, if you know what I mean.

Plus, you need to have the same kepala kind of friends if you want to go clubbing and have fun. It’s not fun if you have friends who just sit down and stare at the floor while you’re out there having the time of your life. It is good that you have a jaga to jaga your handbags and stuff but its the company that matters the most - at least to me. I hate to go clubbing with people who just stand there with a drink in their hand and trying to look cool. That’s SO not blending in at all!! I know that some people are shy about dancing but in a club, there is no room to be shy. Just let loose! I’ve seen some people who can’t dance for nuts and totally disoriented but they don’t care. It’s fun time and fun is what they get.

With that said, as much as I miss hanging out like I used to, I don’t feel like I need to be doing the same now. It’s like I’ve outgrown it or something. I don’t feel that I’ve neglected that part of my life and I guess due to the amount of clubbing I’ve done, it’s like I’ve fulfilled my quota and don’t feel like I’ve deprived myself of that excitement and fun. It’s all good but it does boil down to one thing.

I’m getting old.

And thinking back, I still remember telling my ex-boyfriend that I’ll never stop clubbing even after marriage but I guess I have, to a certain extend. Now, I just go pubbing.
