Or at least, this is the reason that most parents have in mind when facing the trials of raising a [sometimes troubled] teen. I remember when I was growing up [not that I'm that old I've forgotten!], I didn’t really need a reason to rebel or appear to be totally out of whack. If I wanted to be spaced out and left alone, I’d do just that. If I wanted to run amok and go crazy with a bunch of other hormone crazed teenages, I would but if I wanted to scream my lungs out at home or be utterly rude or disrecpectful, I wouldn’t even try! There are some limits, that much I can say. But back in the day, parents never really had anything to read or turn to when faced with raising teens, especially troubled teens. I think many parents would either blame themselves or make things worst by taking the bull by the horns, worst still, if they think that Satan has taken over! Sometimes, force is not the way to do things especially with the rather fragile mind of a teen. I think it’s one of those nightmare periods as a parent.
But I guess in today’s world, help is all around and mostly in the form of informative sites that help with teen issues. Having such a helpful site such as Parenting Teens I bet is a blessing straight from the heavens when one doesn’t know how to deal with certain issues regarding teenagers.
After you’ve outgrown that stage in life and look back, you’ll begin to realise that teenagers indeed face so many obstacles in life peer pressure, self-esteem, communication and of course, the whole idea of sex. As a matter of fact, maybe I should start preparing myself too….you can never have too much information, especially about how to deal with teenagers but I dare say that my parents handled us pretty well. *grin*
