The grass is always green on my side.

I married my brother….

Here’s another one those moment where I sit back and think, ‘Omg….something bad could happen no matter how good some people think it is….’. Yup, if you caught this particular episode on 60 Minutes, you’d know what I am talking about.

Sperm Donor 48QAH [Quite A Hunk, o yea baby!] has been the cream of the crop and the choice sperm for many same sex couples and single mums. And from this, I can see why. I’m not surprised to see that he is indeed quite a hunk, pretty nice looking and has a kind face PLUS he is a a critical-care pediatrician. What more could a woman ask for in an almost perfect gene??? Because he was open to being contacted by his ‘childrens’ mothers, he has found quite a number of them have been born and some of them are even living in the same area/town. Thanks to Donor Sibling Registry, many children and couples now have the choice of looking for their ‘extended’ family.

While it means almost nothing to 48QAH for he doesn’t consider these children his, my mind was whizzing all sorts of thoughts particularly when they showed a group of kids who all have the same father [48QAH] but different mums. There were 7 of them and although they looked different to a certain extend, they had these quirky habits that really bonded them as a ‘family’. But what bugged me the most was….what if….what if these children never knew that they were genetically related?

Imagine all the in-breeding that would be happening if these children didn’t know that they have potential other half brothers and sisters somewhere out there. After all, people move from place to place and I personally think that the likelihood of hooking up with your sibling is possible. And worst still if the parents didn’t move and everyone grew up together, unknowingly. I think the consequences are quite scary….perhaps if you were living in an area and met someone who grew up in the same town/area, I’d highly suggest taking a DNA test to confirm that you aren’t dating your brother or sister!!

It’s sad to note that despite the joy of finally having you own baby, the woe of finding out that your child could be in love with their sibling and on the verge of getting married must be terribly devastating for them, eh? So who is at fault? Or is there no one we could blame? It’s a darn sticky situation if you ask me and definitely one which I certainly wouldn’t want to be in.

That is really a scary thought. Something prime for a day time drama that could have been laughed off at one time. But not really a laughing matter any more. Can you say Oedipus 48QAH? Scary huh Mui? Kecik won’t have to worry about that when dating time starts at least. :)

Yeah it is a scary thought. Especially since I’ve been working in a women’s hospital and I see a lot of the abnormalities that this so called in-breeding can cause. Its quite sad, really.
