I just had to write this when I read Plinky’s post some time ago. Yesla, I’m back bloghopping when I find the time and the time is now since the little miss is asleep. Poor thing though, it’s been hot and humid, and since she can only sleep longer while swaddled, she now can’t sleep much at all because by being swaddled, she get all hot and stuffy! Poor thing…..o well, to think this is just spring time wor. Dunno what is going to happen come summer…..mati kuda sai!!! *pengsan*
Anyway, coming back to what I was going to say……Plinky’s post also reminded me about an article I read in last month’s Readers Digest. It takes me forever to finish a copy because I only read it while on the throne. Hehehe…..the secret it out but I doubt I’m the only one la. In any case, this article was about lost of hearing in the younger generation particularly in Australia. And frankly, I am not surprised at all! According to their research, 3.5 million Aussies are reported having trouble hearing. People in their 20’s are coming in with hearing problems such as ringing in their ears and once this becomes permanent, then you have a problem.
Out of the 3.5 million cases, 37% is due to loud noises which include noisy workplaces and loud music from MP3, iPods and whatnots la. When I was travelling to work by bus and by train before Ella came along, 95% of people had earphones plugged into their ears. I think I was among those who didn’t have any earphones on hence, wasn’t spared the ‘noise’ that these other people were emitting from their earphones.
I found it extremely irritating because what you hear is actually or most likely the drum beats and it seems to have this scratchy sound. I’m sure you know what sound I’m talking about. If you dont know, play your iPod or whatever on the volume you normally have on, ask someone else to plug it in and stand aside. The noise you hear is what I’m talking about.
I really don’t see why people should play their music so loud. When I had to travel to work by bus at my last job, I’ll admit that I myself had earphones on because I got sucked into it as well. And I felt that it’s so self-absorping too since I was totally zoned out and not really bothered about what was happening around me. But I always made sure that the volume was at a minimal level because I’m so afraid of losing my hearing!
Now the rule of thumb is if you have your music on and when you talk to another and you can’t hear them : you definitely got the volume on TOO loud. Listening to loud music may make you feel that you’re INTO the music and feel absorped by it but do keep in mind that your ears are being damaged while you enjoy the rhythm.

When you have a closet which turns to pitch black if the lights blow out, then you’d definitely want to get a replacement as soon as possible. This is what I have to face every time the light in our closet blows. The problem is, if we didn’t have to leave it on throughout the night, then the life span would be longer.
But since the closet light is actually Ella’s night light as she sleeps in the room with us, we have to leave it on. It’s a good thing that there is an online source for light fixtures one can depend on. Nothing beats shopping online and getting free shipping.

Poor Ella….every time we go out, people always think that she’s a boy. All because on those occasions, I dress her up in something with blue color in it. Today was one such occasion. Someone gave us a Cookie Monster bodysuit and she looks simply adorable in it and I love to see her in it. The thing is, it’s mostly blue because Cookie Monster is blue. And just because she was in it, a neighbour from the unit next door thought she was a boy when we bumped into them on the way to the bank.
But that wasn’t the only occasion. I can think of at least 2 more recent occasions where people thought she was a boy. One was when she had on a blue knitted jumper my MIL had knitted for her and the other was when an Avon rep came over [because I signed up] and I had Ella in a blue bodysuit, and she was just lying on the rocker. The most bizarre comment we got with regards to her being a boy was about 2 weeks ago when we were out for breakfast and when we took her out of the pram, the ladies in the next table obviously oooh-ed and aaah-ed at her and then asked if she was a boy. That was when she had the blue jumper on BUT that wasn’t the giveaway. Turns out just because of her full head of hair, they thought she was a boy!! How peculiar….it got me wondering if baby girls here were meant to be bald. But then Ted showed them that she had pink socks on.
I really don’t get it. Why do people ALWAYS assume that if a baby wears a certain color ie. blue = boy and pink = girl, then THAT is their gender?? Does it mean that in order for people not to assume we have to dress our babies in white and all the odd colors is it? I personally don’t assume that if a baby is wearing blue, that it’s a boy because obviously, girls are allowed to wear blue too, you know? After all, baby girls can wear blue but it would be really weird if a baby boy were to wear pink. Funny eh? I know I wouldn’t dress my baby in pink if it was a boy - would look way gay! lol If it sounds bias, I’m just being honest.
Ps. This is a repost from Ella’s blog coz I know many of you don’t actually go there but I wanted to see what you have to say to this. :)

Omg….this is really sam pat!! If I’m not mistaken, sam pat besides meaning the number 38, also means ‘crazy’ in Cantonese, right? I used to call Mum quite often when I was working because I could afford to pay the bill that I was hacking up because each call normally last quite some time but ever since I became a stay at home mum, things have changed. Although I still call Mum up, our calls have shorten tremendously because it is pricey to call from home using our land line. So now, Mum usually calls me instead but still, I’m sure she will feel the pinch at the end of the month because not only does she call me, she also keeps in touch with my Sis who is at Uni every now and then and my Sis is SUCH a chatterbox! So you can imagine how thick her monthly is.
But with PhonecardsAvenue.com, I am able to buy phone card at a cheaper price and hence, be on the phone with Mum longer.
I couldn’t be happier plus the fact that Ella is now getting more chatty by the day so I try to put Ella on the phone so that she remembers what Mum sounds like. Surprisingly, she actually reacts to Mum’s voice. I guess with these cheap phone cards, letting Ella talk to Mum on the phone won’t be so painful.
