I assume their natural habitat, forest, were getting torn down for more development. They have no choice but to resort to humans. Just like the black bears, in the north of the state i'm in tearing up the trash cans for food, and for us south of the state, there are so many deers and wild rabbits eating all the plants, flowers, and vegetable gardens.
