Saving poor ol’ Charlie

This is actually last weeks news but I think it needs more attention that it was getting in the first place. Charlie is a cute dog who has suffered very badly in his previous owners hands. Poor thing pretty much got his family jewels chopped off with a rusty blade as punishment. Good thing the neighbours called in the cops when they heard his agonizing cries. He was found in the shed bleeding but was saved and is now awaiting a new owner in a local animal sheter. Last I heard he already has a new owner which is great news but there was no follow up story to that. So good luck Charlie, you best behave or you might lose the other one too! But on another note, it surprises me the number of people who actually called in asking to take Charlie in because he was featured on national tv. This was mentioned in the news by the way - not making it up or assuming either.

I’m glad that there are so many good hearted people out there who have offered to take him in BUT he is only one dog who needs saving. Just because dozens of pets [mainly dogs and cats] who are currently in animal shelters and the RSPCA don’t get enough media attention, they are not being adopted? Charlie was lucky that he is, I hope, in good hands but it was due to the media coverage. Otherwise, he’d still be rotting in the shelter like many other thousands out there.

Oprah put on a very good show the other day about puppy milling and as a dog lover, I am almost a convert to watching her religiously. I know some people live by her words *hint hint* but I must say that she has done many good things and this is one of them which I absolutely am thrilled about! The gist of it is, if you are thinking of getting a pet - go to the shelters. Go to the RSPCA, go to the places where the animals are in need of rescuing and you’ll be surprised that even though you were thinking of getting a puppy, but thought that most places like these only have adults then think again. Animal shelters always have pups and kittens, cats and dogs of all kinds and of all ages.

Don’t buy your pet dog and help put the puppy milling industry to an end. Rescue a recued dog/cat.
