Moview Review : Spiderman 3

No spoilers in here but if you want it, it’s here

This movie obviously didn’t leave a lasting impression on me because I actually watched last week but kept posphoning the review until today since I have nothing to blog about. I have nothing against Spidey at all, in fact, I feel nothing for Spidey….but I still went to watch this because of all the talk and publicity. But mainly coz I noticed that Spidey turned bad in this movie. Mmmmmmwaaahahahaha!!

SPIDERMAN 3!!!

All in all, it was rather action packed and I must say that many times, I was going, ‘Ouch….ooof…..esshhhh!’ from the ‘pain’ I felt when Spidey or whoever who was fighting got smashed into walls and steel pillars. There was a bit of drama here and there but for the life of me, I cannot stand Mary-Jane’s character which potrayed her to be so wimpy….imho but then again, I never even liked Kirsten Dunst for that matter. So having that wimpy, needy character just totally put me off. As for Spidey, I guess Toby Maguire played his part as he should, to the best he could and did a fairly good job but then again, I never watched any of the previous Spiderman movies so I wouldn’t know if he was better or worst.

All in all, I think if you gave it a miss, you wouldn’t regret it. It’s a touch and go kind of movie - to me, the deciding factor of if one should watch this or not is if you are a fan of Spiderman or not. If not, don’t bother paying good money for this. Save it for Pirates of the Carribean, opening today!!! *grins in anticipation* Me is SO going to catch this next Wednesday since I’m such a stingy poker…..why rush and pay more when I can wait till next week?? Heh….

Ain’t no Sunshine

Between Sunshine and The Reaping - I should have picked The Reaping.

I went to the movies last night with a colleague and we couldn’t decide on Sunshine or The Reaping. Although she left it up to me to decide, I was all for The Reaping, sadly I decided against it because  I just wanted to be on the safe side and wanted ‘honour’ good ol’ midwives tales - “Not good to watch all those ugly and scary movies, then your baby will be ugly”. *rolls eyes* Well, serves me right for not listening to my guts!

Sunshine (2007)

In general, it’s about a group of 8 astronauts sent to save the sun from ‘dying’ by launching a stellar bomb into the Sun to re-ignite it. But as in all normal sci-fi movies, things go wrong but in the end, the world is saved.

In general, it’s about a group of 8 astronauts sent to save the sun from ‘dying’ by launching a stellar bomb into the Sun to re-ignite it. But as in all normal sci-fi movies, things go wrong but in the end, the world is saved.

I wasn’t impressed by the plot, I wasn’t impressed by the acting particularly by Michelle Yeoh coz I know she can do better than this, [Didja catch Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon?? You should if you didn’t!] and I was yawning most parts of the movie and pretty much got lost towards the end. But I was slightly impressed by the graphics particularly the way they showed what the Sun would look like after god-knows how many hundreds of percent filtering. And also how the Sun burns at close range. Then again, this was merely a vision or depiction I guess coz no one really know what the Sun looks like, do they? But I thought it looked very much like earth on fire really. And that was about it. I guess I blame my lack of interest in any sci-fi genre movies so if you’re into Armageddon and The Core, then go watch this. Otherwise, don’t bother.

Thankfully, my only consolation is that I only wasted RM7.80 - RM5 for the ticket and RM1.80 for my drink. It was Wednesday mar. Heh.

Spoiler here.

Wah……this movie is BEST!!! If it’s showing, please go and watch it. :w00t:

Anything that’s got to do with Hannibal Lector - I like. However, I haven’t finished collecting the series of DVDs yet. Currently I only have Red Dragon and Silence Of The Lambs. I have yet to get Hannibal and Hannibal Rising. But fear not, I shall complete my collection soon. Uncle Ho, here I comeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Now, back to the review. In short, this movie is goes back into Hannibal Lector childhood and how he lost his family. His sister, Mischa is SO cute!!!! *geram mau cubit pipi nyer* It goes on to record how he becomes a monster [by doing what he does best] and what makes him the way he is. It is violent but not too bad - sadistic would be the best world to describe our dear Hannibal. I simply love his character! I wish I could tell you more but that would give the story away. The best thing to do is, go catch the movie itself.

Caspard Ulleil play the young Hannibal Lector
Aiyo, so handsome and dark and creepy all rolled into one!! *drool*

Movie Review : Apocalypto

Ted and I went to watch this yesterday. I’ve been waiting very partiently for this movie ever since I heard that Mel was busy with his next movie after The Passion of Christ [which I have watched too]. I would count the days till it finally arrived and we marched over to the cinema to catch the 3.10pm show. The movie lasted 138 minutes and a well worth 138 minutes it was!

Now, to be begin with….I personally felt that the ending was somewhat cliche and is a rather common ending but the major difference is the setting and environment of the movie. The location, so to speak. The directing was good [Go Mel!!] but what captivated me was the location….it was superb!!! Although the stars in this movie are not well known, I think they did a great job, even Seven [Dahlia Fernandez] who was acting for the first time and what a huge project she took upon herself! Good job dear….

Overall, it’s about how a man whose village is ravaged and how he survives all odds to return to his village to save the ones he loves. Sounds like a typical knight in shining armour who saves the damsel in distress at the end of the day, and it is. But the difference is, the movie is MA15+. It is barbaric. It is violent. It is bloody. It’s my kinda movie. I do not suggest it for the weak of heart, although it is not as violent as Saw 3. So, don’t worry. It has its funny and wickedly obscene moments and you must watch it on big screen.

I know you can easily get a copy from Uncle Ho and unless you got a big screen at home, it would not be the same. I’m not sure how much of it will be censored by the censorship board in Malaysia but I think many scenes may be cut out and that is such a pity coz those are the essence of the movie. I was telling Ted after the movie yesterday how I think Malaysia is going to screen it : The film will just show the forest with the background script being read as the scantily clad men and women walk around and when the icky bits happen, everything would go slow-mo of a scene from somewhere in the beginning of the show [ie kids playing or men fighting] and suddenly, you’re at a different location and the storyline has taken a major twist, and you’re left dropped-jaw wondering what the heck just happened. I can just see it now…..aiyo, so sad lar!

However, if some of you have already seen it, please let me know how well my prediction was or if I was totally wrong and the censorship board actually allowed more than I thought. Which I doubt….in any case, lemme know.

Saw 3

FINALLY!!! Haiyolar….I dont think I can take anymore sequels from Saw the movie! Although it was such coincidence that I saw a number plate the other say which had ‘SAW 372′ on it and I thought, ‘OMG!!! If it ever came to that, I”d be running the other way….’ I bet it would be the sequel with Amanda’s great-great-grandaughteras the psycho woman. Anyways, Ted and I went for Saw3 last Thursday and I’ve had to wait till now to finally write you a review of it. I just couldnt find the time, would you believe it??

I dont want to review in detail lest I end up turning this into a spoiler although I will throw in the spoiler later on. But the bottom line is that, this is a hate-it or love-it movie. It’s certainly one of those must-see movies for all those out there who are fans of blood and gore like yours truly. However, some say otherwise. A few good reviews has this to say about Saw 3 :

  • If you found Hannibal’s brain cooking scene a tad too much, you will want to avoid Saw III; but if you are a fan of the gory versions of horror, this will be an iconic essential
  • The makers… demonstrate a genuine integrity for their series by reigning the story back in to its original core elements… Fans of Saw will not be disappointed.
  • There’s a reason that this series has exploded at the box office while other sequels wither on the vine — and it’s not just because of the perpetually rusty torture devices.
  • Saw III isn’t just by far the best film of the series, it’s one of the better horror movies of the year.
  • Makes the first two look about as intimidating as a child’s six piece jigsaw puzzle. This is for the hardcore horror fan and for the hardcore horror fan only.

While others, bashed Saw 3 :

  • The fact that it contrives to give its torture master the moral high ground (apparently he only tortures his victims for their own good) is possibly more perverse than any of its violence.
  • Extremely dull in every sense. Even the most devoted fan won’t find much to enjoy in this grab-bag of tired cliches and inept tricks.
  • Call this franchise ‘Chicken Soup for the Soulless.’
  • The faces on the mannequins at Penney’s are more familiar than these actors. The entire cast might as well be dressed in gray and bicycling around Beijing.

Now, if you ask me what I thought of the movie, I’d say that it was freaking fantastic! Jigsaw is currently standing side by side with Hannibal as far as I’m concerned. This last sequel to the previous 2 Saw movies, is the most happening, disgusting and gruesome of the lot! It’s that gruesome and literally painful that I found myself hiding behind my jacket several times during the course of the show. Not to mention the number of ‘Ouch!’ and ‘OMG!!’s that spewed from my mouth during this less than 2 hour movie. It even had Ted going, ‘Gad….’ a couple of times too. So you can just imagine the kind of scenes that took place!

I found the plot to be quite interesting and the ending, perfect! All 3 Saw movies had me thinking about the plot and how the deeds were carried out and everytime, I would fail at understanding how it all worked but in the last sequel, all is revealed and YET, at the end, you’ll still find yourself in for a surprise. And this is why I could hardly wait for Saw 3 to be released. I doubt the uncensored version will be shown in Malaysia, I think it’s too extreme for the cinemas there BUT even if they did bring it to the cinemas, I think it will be very brutally butchered. That would really suck coz most of the interesting bits HAVE to be in there and you HAVE to watch it. So here’s hoping that all Malaysian will get a chance to watch the real Saw 3 - uncensored. If not, just go visit Uncle Ho lor! :hehe:

My last thoughts on Saw 3 [which also happens to be part of a review]…if ever there was a movie that warranted a “not for the squeamish” advisory, this is certainly it. So go watch it…it’s coming to cinemas near you!

Ps. For the spoiler, go here.

Weekday movies for me!

I have decided. Actually, I’ve pretty much made up my mind and am sticking to it. From this day forth, it’s weekday movies for me!! :dancing:

Why, you ask? Simply because it cost me a mere RM5 a pop ticket and the crowd was bearable, there was no rush to park, no rush to buy my popcorn and coke and best of all, I have 5 days to spread out instead of just 2 days over the weekend! WOOT!!

And I know this because I went for a movie with little sis [henceforth shall be dubbed Piglet] yesterday. *Prepares self to get bombarded with the many ‘Why?????’s and ‘Oh nooooooooo!!!’s* We went to watch the much-awaited-got-laughed-at-Cannes, The Da Vinci Code. I’m not even going to bother doing a review or even give a synopsis of the movie because it’s been SO talked about that if you’ve never heard of it, I think you need to get back under the rock you crawled out of right now. :hehe:

But what I would like to say is that despite the numerous negative reviews and dumbfu*ked responses it got ~ I still went for it simply because I wanted too. And I have to thank those who did those reviews too, especially those who criticized it, chewed it up and spat it out because they had painted such a bad picture of the movie that I entered the cinema with the lowest expectations EVER and came out somewhat pleased with the movie despite it’s mediocrity. [It's true, it was certainly no biggie and too fast-paced as compared to the book. Need to re-read the book lar, the movie got me confused!]

So, thank you. Here looking forward to The Omen, Over The Hedge and many more weekday movies to come!! :dancing:

P.S. Will someone, anyone please tell me what happened at X-Men III, after the credits finally finished rolling?!?!?! I know there was something there but didn’t stay back to find out what was showed. PLEASE TELL ME!!! :praying:

[OMFG!!!! :suprised: Texas Chainsaw Massacre : The Beginning is COMING!!!!! *pantsheavespantsheavespengsans*]
